Weight loss for the 325i

Postby 1fastm3 on Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:27 am

Weight loss for the 325i --- So, a little history. I've owned my '92 325i for almost 14 years now. Bought it in my 2nd year of Pharmacy school on New Year's Eve. Since I've owned it, she's been thru a lot.....new tranny, clutch top end, etc....I used her very well. Top speed, at any time of her life was always 233 kph. Just a solid car. She's lived thru two Subaru's that took much attention away from her, unfortunately. Now she has the M3 to tempt me away from her. My thread about changing the diff'l has opened my eyes to her again. I've decided to make it into a 75% track car for my wife. Nothing major, no cage or anything like that, it still needs to go to the store once and a while. So, today, I gutted the trunk and the rear area of the car as best I could. ~~~80 lbs was removed...possibly more as the scales I used are designed for semi trucks, so, a margin of error always exists. Here are some picture:

Smart thing to do? Hard to say, it's not that much more noisier than before.

I know that previous comments mentioned an imbalance in the 50/50 weight dist'n of the car now, and I may need to rectify this. Perhaps with coil-overs as was also mentioned. Either way, I'm happy. More will come in the spring once my wife gets her new 335xi. :D

I'll be interested to see how your project goes, especially if you do decide on coil overs. I have been considering them for my car!
